Giant bullous emphysema in the right middle lobe.

چکیده
Giant bullous emphysema, or vanishing lung syndrome, typically occurs in young, thin male smokers with large bullae in one or more upper lobes occupying at least one-third of the hemithorax. We present here a rare case of giant bullous emphysema in a mid-age nonsmoking female who was seen for progressive shortness of breath and cough. Chest computed tomography found a giant bulla in the middle lobe of right lung. The patient underwent successful thoracoscopic bullectomy and is currently without residual symptoms.

A new perspective on the treatment of complicated giant emphysematous bulla A case report.
UNLABELLED We report a case of 31 years-old female suffering from complicated giant bulla in the right upper pulmonary lobe. The patient was admitted to our hospital with a radiologic diagnosis of hydro - pneumothorax treated by chest tube in a first time, and later, for prolonged air leaks, by uniportal VATS with a single 4-cm skin incision. We have observed a giant ruptured bulla in right upp...
متن کاملEndobronchial valve migration.
Endobronchial valves are increasingly used as a treatment modality as a less invasive alternative to lung volume reduction surgery in patients with severe emphysema. Endobronchial valves have also been used to treat patients with persistent pulmonary air leaks and those with bronchopleural fistulae. We report a case of a 61-year-old male with severe bullous emphysema. Following video-assisted t...
متن کاملIntra- and interoperator variability of lobar pulmonary volumes and emphysema scores in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and emphysema: comparison of manual and semi-automated segmentation techniques.
PURPOSE We aimed to compare the intra- and interoperator variability of lobar volumetry and emphysema scores obtained by semi-automated and manual segmentation techniques in lung emphysema patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS In two sessions held three months apart, two operators performed lobar volumetry of unenhanced chest computed tomography examinations of 47 consecutive patients with chronic ...
متن کاملSuccessful Treatment of a Giant Emphysematous Bulla with an Endobronchial Valve in a Patient with Contralateral Lung Cancer
Patients with severe emphysema have a higher risk of developing lung cancer, and their surgical risk increases when emphysema is accompanied by a giant bulla. Here, we describe a patient who had an emphysematous giant bulla in the right upper lobe that was treated with an endobronchial valve placement. Subsequently, a cancerous lesion on the contralateral lung was successfully removed by lobect...

The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between lobar severity of emphysema and lung cancer using automated lobe segmentation and emphysema quantification methods. This study included 78 patients (74 males and 4 females; mean age of 72 years) with the following conditions: pathologically proven lung cancer, available chest computed tomographic (CT) scans for lobe segmentation, an...
